Sunflower & Shopping

Here is today's block, Sunflower. I departed from my everyday raw-edge applique with this block, and made proper freezer paper templates and folded over the seam allowances. The bias stem I already had - I save the leftover pieces of bias stems in a box - they're perfect for these tiny blocks.

I also managed to finagle some husband-sanctioned stash enhancement today! My friend Michelle took a short break from her 24-7 schedule of ass-kickery to see what the deal was with this quilt shop nonsense I'm always prattling about. Here's the haul, many lovely finds due entirely to Michelle:

Please take special note of the keyboard fabric (ooh!) and the inadequately photographed cheese fabric (third from the left, top row). I find my fabric adventures are more fruitful when I go with specifically thin sections of the stash in mind. In this case, the yellow was in desparate need of fattening up (what better than some fat quarters?) and I am currently on the hunt for red, black, and white. Either solo or as a combo print - this has been decided on as the colorway for next year's Dear Jane.

Hi Lindsay Jean,

Took a peek at your blog today. Have you really kept up with the "block a day" so far? I read a few of your more recent posts and enjoyed the pics of your blocks. I like your color choices very much. I love the yellow/black combination. I also had a chance to listen to the M.I.A. song... talk about a generation gap. I believe the only lyrics I could make out were "UPS"? Catchy tune though...lol. I think I'll stick to something more my speed...like the Zombies, Cream or The Beatles. I know...I'm dating myself.

Thanks for dropping in on my blog, too. Will have to come back and see more of your blocks...and maybe listen to a little M.I.A. again!

Love to look at your blocks every day. Just curious what your plans are for all of them? Are you going for a specific number of blocks in each colorway you have started?

Found your blog through quilter's buzz. Way to go on a block a day! A great place for stash building fat quarters by colorway is www.foothillfabric.com. They have great sales. I love what they call the box of fabric.

I love the block today. Applique is something that I've never had the courage to try.

And the cheese and keyboard fabrics are too, too fabulous.
