Shooting Star

Today's block is Shooting Star, a confection of blue and glitter that finishes at just 8". I think I like the blue and silver version of Christmas colors over the more traditional red and green...

But, since old Bushy-boy decided today was a federal holiday, I had time for some other sewing too! First, I sewed down the other side of the bias tape vine on my Charm Star. This is what it looks like:

And here are some ideas I have for the applique to go around the vine. I really need your opinions!

I thought it would be kind of a kick to do all the applique in diamonds, just like the quilt center. So I have a diamond-shaped butterfly, bird, and two types of flowers. What do you think? Is it gimmicky and silly or is it kind of different and cute?

And here's the haul from yesterday! Due to a few East Coast ice storms, my side of the family is not represented here, but Patrick and my in-laws were so generous and thoughtful! I'm really excited to go shopping with my Kohl's, Best Buy, and iTunes gift cards, but my favorite is the bag. In the back there? That is a purse made from a David Bowie album cover - swoon!

Andi, do me a favor and leave the name of your friend/the company that makes these in the commments. Inquiring minds want to know!

I love your ideas of adding the diamond shaped things to your quilt. I can't wait to see what you do. You were a very good girl this year getting all those goodies.

your charm quilt is turning out wonderfully. Given the freehand curvey nature of the bias "vine" I think I'd go for more organic/curvey shapes for the appliques, but that's just me. I do like the flowers you developed out of diamonds....

I like the diamonds - the birdy & flower in the lower right. :) Cute stuff!

I love your Charm Star. Which pattern did you use? I would love to make one.
I like the bird and the flower on the lower left best. But any would be pretty!
Your blue block is pretty too. You are almost to the end.....

Love, love, love everything today. I really like your applique ideas, I think they are very inventive. I would adjust the leaf on the pink flower, kind of looks like a pointy ice cream cone. Maybe make the leaf smaller and/or add another leaf. Just love your ideas, tho.

Your quilt is so great. I really like the bird and the flower in the left bottom corner. Those are great ideas. I like your star block better too.

Nice hual.
Great block.
I'd go with the bird and the larger flower.
The kids loved their clothes. Pictures soon.

I like that flower on the bottom left.

And I like the blue/silver Christmas color combo as well.

About the David Bowie purse...okay, this is going to sound a little crazy but I'd suggest just calling the guy, Sky, and talking to him about his business and what he does if you are interested in a purse. There is a "website" but it's not really useful and you can't order online.

He also doesn't have a PayPal account so you'll end up sending his mother (yes, his mother) a check or money order and as soon as he has your money he sends the bag. I was a little more than nervous about how this all went down but I got the bag within five days of mailing him the check.

I originally found him at an arts and craft fair and was so intrigued about what he makes that I had to have one (I have a Police bag). He makes a couple of different sizes, yours is the largest I saw, and they come in squares or rectangles. I wasn't sure about your purse so I got his contact info and ordered yours in the manner described above. Here's his contact info:

I can't believe the compliments I get in response to my bag. People notice it and strangers feel compelled to talk to me about it. I've started carrying Sky's business card with me because so many people want to know where I got it from.

I still feel silly telling strangers about how to get one of their own...it does seem a little sketchy but it all worked out!

I'm also going to be the oddball here and place a vote for the butterfly.
